Endpoint ManagementDEX is no longer a nice-to-have — it's a business imperative. Here's everything you need to know.
Digital Employee Experience — or DEX — is the sum of all digital interactions an employee has with their technology throughout their workday. From the moment they log in to the moment they close their laptop, every interaction shapes their experience, their productivity, and their satisfaction.
"DEX is not about whether your systems are up. It's about whether your people can do their best work."
Traditional IT focused on infrastructure uptime — is the server running? DEX shifts the lens to the human experience — is the employee productive? Are they frustrated? Are issues being resolved before they're even noticed?
This shift from system-centric to people-centric IT is what separates modern, high-performing organizations from those still stuck in reactive firefighting mode.
"The most dangerous technology problems in your organization are the ones you don't know about. The employee who reboots three times before getting to work. The VPN that drops every afternoon. The application that takes 45 seconds to load. None of these become tickets. All of them cost you."
Poor digital experience costs organizations in ways that are measurable, preventable, and directly tied to business outcomes.
Every friction point in the digital workplace costs time. A slow application, a failed VPN, a software crash — each one pulls an employee out of their flow. At scale, these micro-interruptions add up to hours of lost productivity per employee per week.
Employees who struggle with technology disengage — and eventually leave. In a competitive talent market, your digital experience is part of your employee value proposition. Great DEX is a retention strategy that HR and IT must own together.
Proactive remediation dramatically reduces help desk ticket volume, IT labor costs, and unplanned downtime. When issues are resolved automatically before employees notice them, the cost of IT support drops measurably — and sustainably.
You cannot successfully deploy Copilot, ChatGPT, or any AI tool on top of a broken digital experience. Employees who struggle with basic technology will not adopt AI tools. DEX is the prerequisite — the foundation that makes AI enablement possible.
Most technology problems are never reported. Employees who experience slow applications, failed logins, or degraded performance typically work around the issue, absorb the frustration, or disengage — very few open a help desk ticket. This means traditional IT has a visibility gap that is structural, not operational. You can only fix what gets reported, and most things don't. DEX platforms like Nexthink close that gap by surfacing issues across the entire employee population, identifying root cause at scale, and resolving problems that would otherwise remain completely invisible to IT.
DEX platforms do more than monitor — they create a direct, contextual channel to employees. Nexthink's engagement capabilities allow organizations to communicate with users at exactly the right moment: when an issue is occurring, when a change is being deployed, or when sentiment signals that a group is struggling. Unlike traditional IT communications — emails that go unread, intranet posts that go unvisited — DEX-driven engagement is targeted, timely, and measurable. Partnering with your communications team to leverage this capability transforms how the organization listens to and communicates with its workforce. Over time, this builds a trust relationship between employees and IT that fundamentally changes adoption, sentiment, and satisfaction.
Microsoft's endpoint management tools — Intune, SCCM, Configuration Manager — are powerful, necessary, and never fully effective. Compliance dashboards report high percentages, but in any enterprise environment there is always a population of endpoints that don't behave exactly as designed. Enterprise environments compound this further: every organization layers a security stack on top of the managed endpoint — EDR, DLP, zero trust network access, encryption, privileged access management. Each tool is doing its job. Together, they can create conflicts that degrade performance, cause application instability, and generate the kind of slow, intermittent issues that never trigger an alert but silently erode the employee experience every day. Without a DEX platform, that "last 10%" is invisible. With Nexthink, you see it — and you can fix it before it becomes a help desk flood or an employee relations problem.
The goal isn't faster firefighting. It's eliminating the fire entirely.

The DEX market has matured rapidly. Here's an overview of the leading platforms — so you can make an informed decision. We are vendor-neutral.
The global leader in Digital Employee Experience management. Nexthink provides real-time visibility into how technology is actually performing for employees — combining telemetry, sentiment, and automation at enterprise scale.
Deep endpoint analytics and workspace intelligence. SysTrack excels at granular visibility into device performance, application behavior, and user experience across physical and virtual environments.
Known for fast, real-time remediation and strong VDI/DaaS optimization. ControlUp provides IT teams with immediate visibility and one-click remediation across physical and virtual environments.
1E focuses on endpoint automation, compliance, and experience scoring. Strong integration with Microsoft Endpoint Manager makes it a natural fit for Microsoft-centric environments.
Aternity measures digital experience from the end user's perspective — focusing on application performance as experienced by the human, not just the server.
Microsoft's native employee experience platform built into M365. Viva combines engagement, learning, insights, and connections — a natural starting point for Microsoft-invested organizations.

The DEX discipline is evolving rapidly. Here's how the industry is coming together to establish standards, frameworks, and best practices.
DEX Authority Industry Initiative
The DEX Authority is developing the DEX Common Operating System — a standardized operational framework for organizations designing and implementing a Digital Employee Experience discipline. This initiative brings consistency, credibility, and measurable standards to the DEX profession.
The Common Operating System includes enablement, consulting, validation, and certification modules — allowing practitioners to demonstrate their operational proficiency regardless of which DEX platform they use.
Brett Sonderby is an active contributor to the DEX Common Operating System initiative — bringing practitioner experience from one of the largest Nexthink DEX deployments in the industry (150,000 endpoints) to help shape the standards that will define the DEX profession.
A structured, transparent approach that delivers results from day one.
We start with a deep-dive assessment of your business, technology landscape, goals, and challenges to build a clear picture of where you are and where you need to go.
We craft a tailored digital and AI strategy with clear priorities, timelines, and success metrics — aligned to your budget and business objectives.
We execute alongside your team, managing technology deployment, change management, and stakeholder communication every step of the way.
Post-launch, we measure outcomes against KPIs, refine the approach, and ensure your investment continues to deliver compounding value over time.
We combine enterprise-grade expertise with the agility and personal attention your business deserves.
DEX isn't just for large enterprise — and it isn't just for small business. We work with organizations at every stage, from those making their first DEX investment to global enterprises extracting more value from existing platforms.
Buying a DEX platform doesn't create a DEX program. The difference between organizations that extract real value from Nexthink and those that leave it underutilized comes down to organizational alignment. An effective DEX strategy must be embedded into everything — endpoint engineering, security, HR, change management, and communications. That requires someone who can partner across all of those functions and build the consensus to make it work.
We don't just advise — we implement. You get a true partner who works alongside your team to ensure strategies become real results.
No hype, no buzzwords. We identify AI applications that are ready today, deliver measurable ROI, and fit your team's capabilities.
We recommend what's right for your business — not what earns us the highest commission. Your success is our only agenda.
